Summer Time Skin

Diabetics and pedicures

I ask my pedicure clients if they are diabetic before we begin the service. Usually they look at me strangely and say "What does that have to do with a pedicure?" Well the answer is a lot! Diabetics have special health concerns regarding their feet. Prolonged blood-sugar elevation can destroy nerves in the feet and cause poor circulation. So they have to be especially careful with their feet because they do not heal normally if there is even the tiniest injury. With diabetics, the pedicure is much different than with a person who doesn't have diabetes. They need those calluses as a form of protection against injury. And the toenails shouldn't be cut too short and should be filed so they are smooth. If you are diabetic you can get pedicures, just make sure to let the nail tech know so that extra precautions can be taken to keep you safe and healthy!
